Each year, Authorised Fund Managers (AFM’s) must conduct an assessment of each share class in the funds that they manage, to make sure that they are offering value to investors and that costs and charges are justified.

The Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) rules set out components to be considered and on this page you can learn more about how abrdn have assessed the value of our funds, what our findings were for 2024, and access previous reports.

The 2025 report will be available at the end of July.

Our approach to assessment

Evaluation categories

We assess the value based on seven standardised categories established by the Financial Conduct Authority:

Service quality

The quality and range of services provided to the funds and their investors, whether by abrdn or others. Service quality assessment considers third party service, target markets, risk events and complaints.

Performance

How each fund has performed, considering its objective, risk profile and recommended minimum holding period.

AFM Costs

Assessment of the costs associated with managing and operating a fund, including ongoing charges and transaction costs.

Economies of Scale

Whether a fund is utilising its size and scale to reduce costs and deliver better value to investors.

Peer Comparison

A comparison of a fund's costs, charges and performance with similar funds in the market.

Comparable Service

A review of each share class against other comparable funds and classes that offer a similar outcome within abrdn.

Share class access

Whether investors have access to the most advantageous share class for which they are eligible.

2024 Assessment of Value report

In making our assessments, we have used a broad range of data and have aimed for the highest possible level of objectivity.

The process has been consistent with our ongoing fund monitoring, any remedial actions will comply with regulations and with our governance practices, and the outcomes have been reviewed in detail by the Board’s Chair and independent directors.
